Collection: Corydoras

Corydoras: The Armored Explorers, affectionately known as cory catfish, are small, peaceful bottom-dwellers that are a popular addition to tropical aquariums.

  • Appearance: These armored catfish boast two rows of overlapping bony plates (scutes) running along their bodies. While commonly light to dark gray, they exhibit a fascinating range of colors, including red, emerald, gold, and green hues. Distinctive barbels, or whiskers, aid them in navigating their surroundings.
  • Behavior: True to their nature, corydoras spend most of their time exploring the substrate, searching for food. They thrive in groups of six or more, but can also be kept in smaller numbers.
  • Diet: These omnivores relish sinking tropical fish foods like algae wafers and shrimp pellets. They also enjoy treats like frozen and live foods (bloodworms, daphnia) and blanched spinach.
  • Tank Requirements: Corydoras prefer planted aquariums with temperatures ranging from 61 to 75°F (16 to 24°C). They appreciate dimly lit areas and hiding spots provided by bogwood or other decorations.
  • Diversity: The corydoras family is incredibly diverse, with over 100 species identified, including the popular bronze corydoras, dwarf corydoras, leopard corydoras, and peppered corydoras.
  • Natural Habitat: In their natural environment, corydoras inhabit smaller streams, rivers, backwaters, ponds, and marshy areas characterized by clear, slow-moving, and relatively shallow waters.
