DESCRIPTION OF ITEM:
Pink Convict Cichlids, also known as Golden Pink Convict Cichlid, are a popular variant of the convict cichlid (Amatitlania nigrofasciata). These fish are known for their striking appearance and interesting behaviors. The pink or albino variant is bred selectively in captivity and showcases a light pink or whitish body with red or orange eyes.Characteristics:
Appearance: Pink Convict Cichlids have a compact and somewhat flattened body shape. The albino variant lacks the typical dark stripes seen in standard convict cichlids, which can make them stand out even more in an aquarium setting. Instead of the traditional black stripes, they may have very subtle markings that can appear gray or faint in color.
Size: They usually grow to about 4 to 5 inches (10 to 12.5 cm) in length when fully mature.
Temperament: Convict cichlids, including the pink variant, are known for their territorial and sometimes aggressive behavior, especially during breeding. They are generally not recommended for community tanks unless combined with robust and similar-sized fish. It's essential to provide plenty of hiding spots in the tank to help reduce aggression.
Care:
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended for a pair of Pink Convict Cichlids. However, larger tanks are preferable, especially if you plan to keep them with tank mates. The aquarium should have plenty of hiding places, such as caves and dense plantings, to reduce stress and provide territory.
Water Conditions: They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions, with a pH of around 6.5 to 7.5. The ideal temperature range is between 75 to 82°F (24 to 28°C).
Diet: Pink Convict Cichlids are omnivorous and benefit from a varied diet. High-quality cichlid pellets, flakes, freeze-dried or frozen foods (like brine shrimp and bloodworms), as well as occasional plant matter (blanched vegetables or spirulina), will help maintain their health.
Breeding:
Pink Convict Cichlids are known to breed readily in captivity. They are generally monogamous and form strong pair bonds. Breeding pairs will typically create a breeding site among rocks or flat surfaces. The female will lay eggs (sometimes hundreds at a time), and both parents will guard the eggs and the fry. The fry can be raised in the same tank if plenty of hiding spots are provided, or they can be moved to a separate tank to prevent the adults from eating them.
Compatibility:
When setting up a tank with Pink Convict Cichlids, it is essential to choose compatible tank mates. Larger or more aggressive fish can be a good match, while smaller, shy fish may become targets. Fish such as other cichlid species (like certain types of African cichlids), larger barbs, or other robust species can coexist with them if proper space and hiding spots are provided.

Farm-raised Pink Convict Cichlids can make an excellent addition to an appropriately sized and configured aquarium. Their unique appearance and engaging behaviors make them a favorite among cichlid enthusiasts. Be prepared for their territorial nature, particularly during breeding, and ensure your tank environment supports them for the best experience.
