The Green Jade Shrimp is a stunning freshwater invertebrate prized for its vibrant, emerald green coloration. As a selectively bred color morph of the popular Neocaridina davidi, this shrimp adds a pop of jewel-like color to planted aquariums. Hardy, easy to care for, and endlessly entertaining to watch, Green Jade Shrimp are ideal for both beginner and experienced shrimp keepers.
They thrive in well-established, planted tanks with stable water conditions and plenty of biofilm or algae to graze on. These shrimp are most comfortable in groups and will spend their time exploring plants, moss, and rocks.
Fun Facts:
-
The intensity of their green color can vary based on genetics, diet, and substrate—darker substrates often enhance their coloration.
-
Green Jade Shrimp molt regularly as they grow—don’t worry if you see a clear shell in the tank!
-
They help maintain tank cleanliness by scavenging leftover food and grazing on algae and detritus.
Diet:
Omnivorous—accepts high-quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, blanched vegetables (like spinach or zucchini), and biofilm.
Compatibility:
Best kept with peaceful tankmates like small snails, nano fish (e.g. ember tetras or endlers), or other shrimp. Avoid housing with large or aggressive fish that may view them as food.
Breeding:
Very easy to breed in freshwater. Females carry visible eggs (called a “saddle”) and will release tiny shrimplets that grow into miniature versions of the adults.
Add a touch of lush, living color to your tank with the Green Jade Shrimp—nature’s little algae-eaters and a must-have for aquascaped or nano tanks.
