Detailed Description

The Red Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna), also known as the Dwarf Honey Gourami, is a small, vibrant, and peaceful freshwater fish that is highly regarded in the aquarium hobby due to its stunning colors and calm demeanor. It is a variety of the Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna), known for its reddish-orange coloration, which stands out beautifully in community aquariums.

The Red Honey Gourami, a peaceful and vibrant freshwater fish, is cherished for its striking red-orange coloration, especially prominent in males. This small gourami, reaching about 2 inches, has a compact, oval-shaped body and translucent fins. Native to South Asia's slow-moving waters, it adapts well to aquariums, making it ideal for beginners.

These social fish thrive in pairs or small groups, requiring a minimum 10-gallon tank. They prefer warm, slightly acidic water (72-82°F, pH 6.0-7.5) with soft to moderate hardness. A well-planted tank with floating vegetation and gentle filtration replicates their natural habitat. They are omnivores, accepting flakes, pellets, and live/frozen foods, as well as plant matter.

Red Honey Gouramis are bubble-nest builders, with males guarding the eggs and fry. Breeding is best done in a separate tank. They are compatible with peaceful tankmates like tetras and rasboras, but avoid aggressive species. Maintaining good water quality prevents common diseases. They have a labyrinth organ, requiring access to the water's surface to breathe. With proper care, they live 3-4 years.
