Planting Instructions (Bare Root Tuber/Rhizome):
- Choose a Planting Container: Select a wide, shallow aquatic planting pot (typically 6-10 inches in diameter).
- Prepare the Pot: Fill the pot with heavy aquatic planting soil (avoid using potting mix with added perlite or vermiculite, as it will float).
- Plant the Tuber/Rhizome: Gently press the tuber/rhizome into the soil, ensuring the growing tip (where new growth will emerge) is pointing upwards and is just below the soil surface. Do not bury it too deeply.
-
Add a Top Layer (Optional): You can add a layer of gravel or small stones on top of the soil to help keep it in place and prevent fish from disturbing it.
- Submerge Carefully: Slowly lower the planted pot into your pond, placing it in a location that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Start with the pot in shallower water (around 6-12 inches above the top of the pot) and gradually move it to deeper water as the plant grows. Mature water lilies can be placed in water up to 2-4 feet deep, depending on the variety.
- Enjoy the Growth! With proper conditions, you'll soon see new leaves emerging, followed by the anticipation of beautiful blooms.
