The Blue Velvet Shrimp is a stunning freshwater dwarf shrimp prized for its rich sapphire-blue coloration and peaceful nature. As an active algae grazer and scavenger, it’s a natural tank cleaner that adds vibrant movement and color to planted or nano aquariums.

This shrimp is a selectively bred color morph of the popular Neocaridina davidi species, known for its hardiness and ease of care. It thrives in stable, cycled aquariums with minimal predators and does especially well in planted setups where it can forage and hide.

Fun Facts:

  • Blue Velvet Shrimp are cousins of the Cherry Shrimp, bred specifically for their vivid blue hue.

  • These shrimp can molt every few weeks, growing a bit larger with each shed.

  • They use tiny claws to pick algae and biofilm off surfaces, constantly “cleaning” your tank.

  • Best kept in groups of 5+ for comfort and natural behavior—plus, they can breed easily in freshwater!

Diet:
Omnivorous scavengers – feed algae, biofilm, shrimp pellets, blanched veggies (like spinach or zucchini), and occasional protein treats.

Compatibility:
Perfect for peaceful community tanks with small, non-aggressive fish. Avoid housing with predatory or fin-nipping species. Great tankmates include small rasboras, snails, and other Neocaridina shrimp.

Add a pop of color and utility to your freshwater setup with the Blue Velvet Shrimp—a favorite for both beginner and advanced aquarists who love low-maintenance invertebrates with high visual impact.
