The Green Crayfish (Procambarus alleni – green variant) is a striking freshwater invertebrate known for its vibrant green coloration and hardy nature. This species is a color morph of the Electric Blue Crayfish, commonly found in Florida's slow-moving waters, including swamps, rivers, and ponds.

With a mossy to emerald-green exoskeleton, sometimes accented with hints of blue or brown, the Green Crayfish stands out in both natural and decorative tank setups. It typically grows 4 to 6 inches in length and features powerful claws used for foraging and defense.

Green Crayfish are highly adaptable and thrive in a variety of water conditions, preferring a pH of 6.5–7.5 and a temperature range of 70–78°F. They are omnivores, feeding on plant matter, algae, sinking pellets, and protein-rich foods like shrimp and worms.

Though generally solitary and territorial, they can coexist with fast-moving fish that stay out of reach. However, they may prey on slow or bottom-dwelling fish, so careful tankmate selection is advised. Providing plenty of hiding spots with rocks, driftwood, and caves helps them feel secure, especially during molting periods when they are vulnerable.

With their striking color and active foraging habits, Green Crayfish (Procambarus alleni) make a fascinating and hardy addition to freshwater aquariums, offering both beauty and natural scavenging benefits.
