The Neon Stiphodon Goby is a small, peaceful freshwater fish known for its stunning iridescent colors and unique personality. Native to the fast-flowing streams of Southeast Asia, including Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines, this species thrives in well-oxygenated environments. Its vivid appearance and fascinating behavior make it a prized addition to freshwater aquariums.


🐠 Appearance:

  • Size: Reaches up to 2–2.5 inches (5–6 cm) in length.

  • Coloration: Males display brilliant neon blue, green, or turquoise hues with dark, contrasting vertical bands along the body. Females are more subdued, with a brownish or grayish body and faint markings.

  • Fins: Transparent fins with subtle coloration that accentuate their sleek, streamlined body.


🌿 Tank Requirements:

  • Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons for a small group.

  • Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)

    • pH: 6.5–7.5

    • Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard

  • Environment: Mimics rocky, fast-flowing streams. Needs a well-oxygenated tank with good water flow, smooth rocks, and plenty of biofilm for grazing.


🏡 Behavior & Compatibility:

  • Temperament: Peaceful and social, best kept in small groups (4–6) to reduce territorial behavior.

  • Tankmates: Ideal with small, non-aggressive species such as tetras, rasboras, and shrimp. Avoid aggressive or large fish.


🍤 Diet:

  • Herbivorous: Primarily feeds on biofilm, algae, and microscopic organisms. Supplement with algae wafers, blanched vegetables, and spirulina-based foods.
