Detailed Description

Neritina Tiger Snail

Neritina natalensis

The Neritina Tiger Snail, also known as the Tiger Nerite, is a striking freshwater algae-eater known for its bold, striped shell pattern that resembles a tiger’s coat. These snails are not only visually appealing but also extremely effective at cleaning aquarium surfaces—making them a functional and attractive addition to any tank.

Tiger Nerites are peaceful, low-maintenance invertebrates that spend their time grazing on glass, plants, driftwood, and décor. Unlike many other snails, they cannot reproduce in freshwater, so you won’t have to worry about overpopulation. Ideal for community tanks and planted setups, they thrive in stable, well-oxygenated environments.

Temperament: Peaceful
Diet: Herbivore – algae, biofilm, blanched vegetables, algae wafers
Care Level: Easy
Adult Size: 0.5" – 1"
Minimum Tank Size: 5 gallons
Water Parameters:
• Temperature: 72–78°F
• pH: 7.0–8.2
• KH: 3–12 dKH

Notes:
• Requires a secure lid – may crawl above the waterline
• Will not breed in freshwater
• Great companion for shrimp, snails, and peaceful fish species
• Excellent for nano tanks and planted aquariums
