Taro, 2 pack, bare root aquatic plant (Colocasia esculenta)
Transform your pond or water garden into a lush, tropical paradise with the captivating Taro plant (Colocasia esculenta). This bare-root aquatic plant offers striking, oversized foliage and a unique architectural presence, making it a standout addition to any water feature. Known for its large, heart-shaped leaves, Taro adds a touch of the exotic and thrives in wet environments.
-
Dramatic, Oversized Foliage: Taro's most distinctive feature is its large, often heart or elephant-ear shaped leaves, which can grow to impressive sizes, creating a bold and tropical statement in your pond.
- Adds Vertical Interest and Texture: The upright growth habit and broad leaves of Taro provide valuable vertical structure and a contrasting texture to other pond plants and the water's surface.
- Relatively Easy to Grow (Bare Root): Our bare-root Taro plants are an economical way to introduce this stunning plant to your pond. They establish relatively quickly once planted in the right conditions.
- Versatile Planting Options: Plant directly in the pond substrate, in aquatic planting pots submerged in the water, or in consistently moist areas around the pond's edge.
- Unique and Eye-Catching: Taro's distinctive appearance makes it a conversation starter and a focal point in any water garden.
Planting Instructions (Bare Root):
- Prepare your planting location: Choose a spot in your pond or water garden with shallow water (up to 6 inches deep) or consistently moist soil.
- Optional: Use an aquatic planting pot: For easier management and to contain growth, consider using a large planting pot. Fill the pot with heavy aquatic planting soil.
- Plant the bare root: Locate the "eye" or growth point on the tuber (the main part of the bare root). Plant the tuber with the eye facing upwards, burying it a few inches below the soil surface.
- Cover the roots: Cover the tuber with soil, gently firming it around the plant.
- Water thoroughly: If planting in soil, water thoroughly. If using a pot, slowly submerge it in the pond.
- Provide sunlight: Taro thrives in full sun to partial shade.
- Protect from frost: Taro is generally not frost-hardy and may need to be brought indoors or treated as an annual in colder climates.
- Watch it grow! With proper conditions, your Taro will quickly establish and begin to unfurl its impressive leaves.
- Plant Type: Aquatic Pond Plant
- Scientific Name: Colocasia esculenta
- Form: Bare Root
- Mature Height: Varies depending on the variety, typically 2-6 feet tall and wide.
